Singer EM200 Superb Embroidery Machine Review

Singer EM200 Superb Embroidery Machine Review

Singer is a company that has a reputation for producing some of the best sewing machines on the market, and they’ve been a leader in this industry for decades. Their extensive line of sewing and embroidery machines are popular among both beginners and seasoned embroiderers. This is one of their newest models, and it’s a dedicated embroidery machine, which means you’ll be unable to use any type of standard sewing function. While this was a downside for some consumers, serious embroiderers were simply blown away by this machine’s versatility, the wide range of features, and the overall power and faster stitch time this model offers.

Despite the Singer EM200 Superb embroidery machine’s small appearance, this model is built for bigger and better projects and can be used by the casual embroiderer or the professional. It has a lot to offer in terms of extra-features, built-in designs, and a larger than average hoop area.

Superb EM200 Overview and Features

This model comes with two hundred built-in designs, a large LCD touchscreen, bobbin winding feature, and an upper thread sensor that alert’s users when the thread is running out.

It seems that there is no task this tough little machine can’t handle. The extra-large embroidery area is able to handle a snap on hoop up to 10 x 6 inches for bigger patterns. An average sized hoop at 4 x 4 is also included.

This machine also offers a much faster stitch per minute time of seven hundred, as it powers through monogramming and embroidery tasks in just a fraction of the time compared to other machines in this price range.

All stitch and pattern selections are done via the large LCD screen which is backlit. You can purchase additional patterns online and upload them with a USB cord which is also included.

The user’s manual comes in English, French, and Spanish. The extensive instructions booklet is over thirty pages long and includes detailed information regarding each feature. The last fifteen pages of the manual offer a reference listing of all of the two hundred built-in patterns in addition to the pattern number, dimensions, and stitch number.

For monogramming tasks, users can choose from one of two fonts: San Serif or cursive. Each font can be scaled to three different sizes.

In addition to the accessories above, this model comes with a seam ripper, two screwdrivers, five needles, a thread net, extra spool pin, lint brush, and four bobbins. In the sewing bed, you’ll find a built-in accessory tray. This model can also be connected to both 220 volt or 100-volt outlets.

Keep in mind that this model can be used for embroidery only. It doesn’t come with any additional presser feet and there’s no way you can program the machine for a straight stitch. This isn’t a general purpose sewing machine.

For the serious embroiderer, this Singer model is a powerful tool.

Singer Embroidery Machine Pros and Cons

SINGER EM200 Superb Embroidery MachinePros:  This model comes with plenty of features that make it easy to maneuver the fabric and hoops while providing a highly visible embroidery area so you can monitor the machine’s progress. This model is a great buy for a home-based embroidery business or for personal use.

Most buyers love the extra-large embroidery area which provides enough room to create bigger designs. Many of the automated features such as the automatic thread tension, thread cutter, and thread sensor make it much easier to focus on the project instead of worrying about all the small details.

The detailed user’s manual is well-written and includes a section for troubleshooting that’s very straightforward, making it fairly easy to resolve most issues.

Many users who purchased this machine can agree that there’s a learning curve in the beginning. However, this machine can be used efficiently when the buyer takes the time to learn about the machine’s operation in the user’s manual.

The model’s easy design transfer, snap on embroidery hoop and touchscreen display are just some of the features that earned it such a high rating.

This machine also allows the user to control the speed of the stitches, choosing from a total of four speed options.

Cons: Many buyers found that using this machine takes some trial and error in order to get the right combination of needles and fabric for the best stitching quality. There are a number of options and features, which can make it complicated for beginners, which is why we feel this model is a better choice for more advanced sewers who want professional quality results.

Beginners who purchased this machine felt that it simply wasn’t very intuitive. On other models in this price range, when it comes to thread changes, the machine will tell the user the color to use. Unfortunately, this model does not, so you’ll need to constantly refer to the machine’s thread chart.

Other buyers had issues with the needle threader, which they described as cheap plastic.

For some, tension adjustments can also be tricky.

Additionally, this machine only comes with two font options which is pretty disappointing for consumers who love to use the monogram feature. While you can easily hop online and purchase additional font styles, we felt that a machine in this price range should at least offer the standard four of five fonts, which is the standard even for lower priced machines.

Singer Superb Conclusion and Rating

Overall, the machine’s larger than average hoop space, thread cutter, and extensive design library was enough to earn this model a four and a half out of five-star rating. Again, this model is not recommended for beginners, however, for the seasoned embroiderer looking for a machine that can handle larger projects, the Superb is a great buy. Learning curve aside, this machine can handle what standard embroidery machines cannot. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced dedicated embroiderer with a faster stitching time for your home business, look no further than the Singer EM200 Superb.
